Kolyba in the Carpathians

Ski trip route: v. Hrynyava - m. Hrun - tr. Stovpni – meadow Big Ludova - range Vatonarka - meadow Lukavytsya – m. Baba Ludova - meadow Dukonya – m. Pniv'ye - meadow Pryslip - meadow Livadi - meadow Hromovytsya – stream Hostovets - r White Cheremosh – v. Hrynyava
We have to admit that initially planned to go much longer distance, but after the first day adjusted our plans to reality.
Short description of the route
Day 1
We arrived in Hrynyava at about 2:00 pm.  We parked our bus at the patrol station near the Black Bridge. We moved up along the river Probiyna, then along the stream Hrynyavka. The night we spent at the end of the village, at the good people Maria and Dmitri, who were so kind to let us sleep in their house.
Day 2
Went up to the meadows near the Hrun mountain, then went to the Stovpni tract. Along the road we saw some stones, two uninhabited kolybas. In general, people live at the altitude of 1100 m there. At lunch we were on the Stovpnya tract. At the evening we came to the Big Ludova meadow. There are several kolybas, but only one of them has a baddish stove and plank beds for six persons. As the woodfire we used the ruins of the sheepfold. The way was rather picturesque, in the afternoon we went mostly through the forest. Snow was about 1 m.
Day 3
The weather was fine. We skied traverse to the Small Ludova meadow and then sideways across the Vatonarka ridge, across the forest we went along the road Probiyna-Lukovytsya to the meadow Kamenytsya. We had dinner and made some photos in the sun. The road was made in 2014 and is good enough for car driving (for example VAZ). The road led us along the smooth mountain serpentine to a new tourist shelter for 10-15 people at 3:00 pm. There was a good new stove in the shelter. It is interesting how long this building will stay in such wonderful condition.
Day 4
We climbed the ridge and in a few hours were looking at the cosy kolybas near the Ozirny tract. One (new) peak is located in the upper stream of Mukhayliv river, another one is seen at the foot of the Ozirny tract. We skied Masny Pryslip over the left traverse and went to the pointers behind Baba Ludova Mountain. The smooth descent led us to the Kamenets mountain traverse, after which the kolybas of the Dukonya meadow were visible. There is a comfortable hutsul homestead with the good beds for 6 people and a stove. There are also vacant places in the room without a stove). The firewood is far enough, but we have found several cut down firs in the stream, cut them and brought to kolyba.
Day 5
In the morning there was a strong snowstorm. We reached the mountain ridge and soon descended from mountain Pnivye to the Pryslip meadow. The wind blew away most of the snow from the ridge in the valley, so we descended along the path covered with fresh crumbly snow. There is a beautiful hutsul homestead with three stoves (two rooms and a dining room) on Pryslip. There we had a dinner and decided where to go further. We feared to go to Grynyava directly along the stream Big Gramitny because of possible snowdrifts and lack of bridges (though in vain). So we went through the ranges and meadows Livadi, Hromovytsya.
As the evening approached, and there were not any good kolybas on our way, we decided to go down in Hostovets with a hope to spend the night in a woodcutters’ hostel. About an hour of wonderful descent and we were near the hostel. Uncle Basil showed us two rooms with the stoves. In general, the hostel is in poor condition – it is falling down, it is in terrible mess and dirt inside. It was the coldest overnight.
Day 6
In the morning we moved along the trail of the timber truck and an hour later we saw the White Cheremosh river. Few families live between the hostel and Cheremosh, they grow up sheep. There is also an empty hut "with facilities". Then our group descended on the road along Cheremosh. After the dam Marien the part of us was taken by a sleigh to Holoshyna. In such a way we get to the bus near the Black Bridge and about 1.00 pm left home.
Skis
Most participants used the classic plastic carving skis with semi-rigid (spring) binding. Skitour set (plastic boots with a liner, binding Naxo, kamus) were useful everywhere except short simple slopes. On long descents it made sense to take off kamus and enjoy skiing.
During the tour we often followed somebody’s ski track . I wonder whose?

After the New Year holidays, which we also celebrated in the Carpathians (on Goverla and Dragobrat), we gathered a cheerful company and went on ski trip across the Hrynyava mountains. We chose the most convenient territory for ski tourism and for not very experienced group of tourists. There are many kolybas in the Hrynyava mountains, which are comfortable for sleep in winter, and quite simply if it is necessary to go down to the villages of the valley of the White Cheremosh or Probiyna quickly.
