About nutrition

While on trekking, when every extra kilo in a backpack affects on speed, it is necessary to find the happy mean between desirable and possible.

Our nutrition principles during trekking

A person responsible for meals during trekking is an instructor, alias a supply manager (zavgosp). His duties are: menu preparation, products purchase, their distribution between participants. Also he is mostly involved in food preparation.

Every participant is involved in organizing household moments: carries some of the products, collects woods, helps to prepare food, does own, and sometimes common wash up.

Products weight

For 5 days trekkings all products are bought at once. Respectively a backpack weight will reduce in proportion to the consumed food. For longer trekkings some part of products is bought before start, and additional purchases are made in the middle of trekking. Therefore, the load will change its weight twice per trekking. The weight of a thermos with tea in winter/a flask with water in summer will stay constant.

To optimize the ration and restrict the use of preservatives we introduced dried products use. In particular, we widely use dried meat and vegetables for porridges and soups. High in the mountains it gives the possibility to satisfy your stomach even with red borsch.

Water on trekking is one of the key elements. In summer we get it from springs, in winter it is everywhere: required amount of water can be melted down.

Considering trekking peculiarities, we offer the following meals scheme: for breakfast and dinner, when there is a chance to set the fire and there is a free access to water, we prepare cooked dishes (porridges in the morning, soups in the evening).

While trekking two snacks are anticipated - sweet and salted. Snack on trekking requires stopping, lasting from 40 minutes to 1 hour. Everyone takes out part of a day share rationed by a supply manager, thermoses with tea or flasks with water. The company shall have rest, share impressions and at the same time stuff with handful of dried bread, raisins or cheese.

During summer trekkings the ration contains hand-picked berries – blueberries and raspberries. Walking by shepherds’ cottages, one sometimes can purchase fresh milk and cottage cheese.
