Perlyna cavern

The cavern was found accidentally during mining of limestone for the construction of house.  It was informed to Ternopil. So the Perlyna cave with a total depth of 30 m and length of 100 m appeared in Ternopil region. For its structure  Perlyna belongs to the caverns of tectonic origin.  It is a fracture in the limestone. The height  of hill in which the cave is located, is 300-400 m.  It is not the karsten cave because it was fully covered by the surface layer of earth and alumina.

The first well has a depth of about 10 m. Then there is a corridor (9 m in height, 1-1,5 m of width and 6 m of length), bottom of which is full of clay, marl and limestone. But it’s not a final depth – to the right and down there is one more well with a depth not more than a 13 m.

The cave is located in the limestone layer, so the main formations in cave – it’s a different calcareous forms: stalactites, stalagmites, and also stone waves which are almost in all parts of the cave.

In one of the narrow heavy accessible corridors there are trays with cave pearls (so the name of cave emerged because of it, «Perlyna» means pearl). These formations meets very rarely in caves. Cave pearls are white and yellow peas with the diameter 5-18 mm. In the section of some of them we can watch the alternating of white or yellow and darker circles.

Cave pearls for its chemical composition don’t differ of turtle pearls. But they are not such beautiful as pearls that have the sparkling mineral arhonit in themselves.
