Trekking by Lician Way (Turkey, Antalia) basic version

The campaign takes place in Antalya, southern Turkey, in picturesque mountains which tops open a marvelous look on the Mediterranean Sea. For 7 days we will go to mountains, swim in the sea for several times and even a look at many interesting facts of this rich ancient land. This route is called Lycian way because you may see many traces of ancient Lycian culture, including sarcophags, tombs, amphitheatres and entire city carved in the rocks.

The basic version of the campaign does not require special training and a lot of endurance. But even makes it possible to travel in winter, when the snow falls in high mountains.

Advantages of the route:
- nature - mountains high above the bright blue sea, covered with pine trees, cliffs and canyons, sea beaches and coves;
- unusuals - the eternal flames of Mount Yanartash, these lights burn continuously within a rock;
- historical sights - trace of Lycian culture: tombs carved in the rock and ruins of ancient settlements;
- oranges :) in February and March numerous citrus orchards ripen in Antalya;
- the sea - almost every day we will go down to the sea, luxuriate under the sun rays and refresh our strenghts in the sea.

Trekking in Turkey are held in the autumn-winter-spring period (September to May). The basic program is relevant in December, January, February and March. In September, October, November, April, May the complicated program is actual.

Day 1

  • meeting with a group at the airport in Antalya
  • overnight stay is in tents in the woods nearby Antalya 

Day 2

  • transfer to Mavikent by public transport in the morning
  • Trekking from the settlement Mavikent to Cape Gelidonya
    The first day is full of impressions as civilization gradually changes into rural landscapes. When the group reaches the coast, everyone can enjoy sea views. Along the way we can see big vegetable plantations of Mavikent and seaside town Karaoz. You can also enjoy swimming in the sea and tasting juicy oranges right from the trees. The road is rather long. The overnight stay is at the beach.

Day 3

  • trekking to Cape Gelidonya – movement towards a settlement Adrasan
  • There is the last swim in the sea in the morning and we continue to forest part of route. Our road from the "highway" gradually turns into a mountain path. We can see the old lighthouse at Cape Gelidonya, it had caused a lot of shipwrecks at that place. Then the route goes through forest hills so we can enjoy a bird’s-eye view of the sea. The sea path will lead us to the vast meadows. The overnight stay is at forest glade
  • daily distance is approximately 20 km

Day 4

  • trekking to Adrasan along Cirali village
  • after high overnight, we will descend to the sea to the town Adrasan. We will stop on the south; you can enjoy swimming and sunbathing, tasting local delicacies. Overnight stay is in the forest area.
  • daily distance is approximately 5-7 km

Day 5

  • trekking from Adrasan – descent towards Cirali village
  • That day we only cross the mountains, although while doing that we will see beautiful natural pools which were washed out by river water. Rocks are almost white, and the water in them is blue. From the mountain range there is a panoramic view of the surrounding valleys. Overnight stay is in the forest area
  • daily distance is approximately 16 km

Day 6

  • the descent to the village Cirali – overview of the ruins of the ancient city of Olympos – excursion to the Chimaera’s fires (Mount Yanartas) 
  • The plan of the day is to rest. In the morning we descend from the mountains and go exploring the ruins of the ancient city of Olympos. Majestic ruins, remnants of fortress and walls, ancient theater and sarcophagi, remains of the temple, wineries are preserved here. Right behind Olympos there is Cirali beach. In the village there are restaurants and hostels, so you can spend a comfortable night. Nearby the beach we can put up out tents and in the evening we go on another tour to “fire mount” Yanatras. According to a legend, a monster Chimera was defeated by a Greek hero Bellerophon and his winged hours Pegasus trampled it into the ground. Since then Chimera has been spewing flames from the ground. Actually there is constantly burning natural gas. Overnight stay is near the beach

Day 7

  • going along Cirali Beach – Bay of Cleopatra – movement towards a settlement Tekirova
  • The way stretches along the coast. That day we go past some extremely picturesque bays, fragrant tall pine trees, scenic views surrounded by bizarre cliffs. In one of them, someone saw the profile of Cleopatra, and therefore they named of one of the bays Cleopatra’s. Overnight stay is nearby the settlement Tekirova
  • daily distance is approximately 15 km

Day 8

  • going to the village Tekirova – transportation to Antalya 
  • in the morning we can swim in the sea and walk to the village of Tekirova where you can leave to Antalya.
  • if there is time, you can visit the ruins of the ancient city of Phaselis. The most impressive sight in Phaselis is an aqueduct, an artificial channel that used to supply the city with water from a spring on the northern hill. We will arrive to Antalya in the evening. Overnight stay is in the hostel or in the tent

Day 9

  • finish of the tour in Antalya
  • depending on departure time you can spend a few hours in the center of Antalya
  • transfer to the airport
  • flight back home
